As Prince George grows up, he will begin to receive more public attention as the future heir to the British throne.

When his father, Prince William, becomes king, George will receive a number of new titles, including the important title of Prince of Wales. The death of Queen Elizabeth on September 8, 2022 has brought many changes to the royal family, including a change in titles after King Charles ascends the throne. King Charles has given the title of Prince of Wales to Prince William, who is following in his father's footsteps, as he is the longest-serving Prince of Wales. This means that when William eventually ascends to the throne, Prince George will become the Prince of Wales.

While this may not happen immediately, George will hold a number of impressive titles as he becomes second in line to the throne. George, who turns 11 on 22 July this year, is next in line after his father, Prince William. An official photo released on his birthday shows just how grown-up and composed he looks. When William becomes king, George will be the 28th Prince of Wales and will immediately become the Prince of Cornwall. However, William will need to formally bestow upon him the title of Prince of Wales.

George's future titles will include Prince of Cornwall, Earl of Chester, Prince of Rothsay, Earl of Carrick, Baron Renfrew, Lord of the Isles and Prince and Grand Master of Scotland. He will also inherit the vast Duchy of Cornwall estate, which has historically supported the royal family financially. There have been 27 Princes of Wales before him, including notable figures such as King Henry VII and King Edward VII. Princess Catherine and Prince William are gradually introducing George to royal responsibilities while encouraging him to make his own choices.

They want to give George and his siblings, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, a normal childhood, without the pressure of their future roles. Rather than forcing George into military service, as King Charles did, they intend to give him the tools he needs to shape his own destiny. While preparing him for the throne, William and Catherine nurtured George's independence and hoped he would attend university. Their priority is to ensure he and his siblings receive a normal education, without the burden of future duties weighing them down.

Today, Prince George lives the high life, spending time with the Middleton family and friends like Ralph Toes, and attending social events like football matches and Wimbledon with his parents. This exposure allowed him to meet a wide range of people and build his confidence, allowing him to gain early experience in public through events that he enjoyed. Traditionally, heirs to the British throne have undergone a rigorous and public education in line with the monarchy’s long tradition of lifelong service.

While George’s reign may seem far away, William and Catherine’s approach will allow him to prepare at his own pace with the support of a caring family. Meanwhile, George enjoyed a privileged childhood, playing with his siblings, spending time with his grandparents and occasionally stepping into the limelight. As the royal family has grown, so has the role of the future King, with Prince George symbolising a new era in the monarchy’s rich history.
