Catherine and William have been spotted visiting Prince George's new school in preparation for a major milestone. Prince George, the Duke and Princess of Wales' first child, has just completed his Independent Schools Council exams and will be moving on to the next stage of his education.

They have recently visited a number of high-profile schools, sparking speculation about George's education. Now 11, the prince is studying at Lamr Preparatory School in Berkshire and is expected to move to a new school after the summer of 2026 when he turns 13.

The British royal family has always maintained a tradition of strict education with boarding schools such as Gordonstoun and Eaton College. However, Catherine and William are keen to carve out their own path for their son by sending him and his siblings to a co-educational school.

George has been enrolled at Thomas's Battersea School in London, reflecting his parents' desire for a balanced and inclusive education. With George about to turn 13, the family are faced with the challenge of choosing a secondary school that suits both their royal aspirations and their own interests.

Over the past 18 months, William and Catherine have been researching prestigious schools, including their own, in search of the best learning environment for their son. The decision has also been underlined by the fact that George has completed his Independent Schools Council pre-tests in late 2023.

Eaton College: This is the top choice, with fees of £63,000 a year, and is a boarding school for boys aged 13 to 18. Eaton has a rich history and excellent facilities, reflecting its commitment to royal tradition.

Marlborough College: This school, attended by Catherine, is renowned for its co-educational environment and fees of £59,000. However, George will need to travel due to the distance from Windsor.

Highgate School: Recently visited by the Duchess of Cambridge, this school is open to children aged four to 18 and promises to provide a cross-cultural learning experience for all three siblings, George, Charlotte and Louis.

University College School Hampstead: Also on the day of her Highgate visit, the Duchess of Cambridge visited UCS Hampstead, a top £31,371-a-year private school that places a strong emphasis on academic achievement and personal development. The royal couple face a complex decision as they assess the benefits and challenges of each school.

While Eaton College and Marlborough College embody royal traditions, Highgate School and UCS Hampstead show a willingness to embrace a modern educational path. The decision will not only affect Prince George’s future, but also reflect the changing priorities of the royal family.
