Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have found actress Justine Bateman's comments "offensive" after they spoke out about helping victims of the Los Angeles wildfires.

The former Family Ties actress has branded the couple "disaster tourists" after photos of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex handing out food and supplies to victims outside the Pasadena Convention Center went viral.

"Meghan and Harry are offended that people think this is just a photo opportunity," a separate source told Page Six. The couple currently live about 90 miles north of Los Angeles. However, the source said: "Meghan was born and raised in LA so it's always been home for her."

According to insiders, Meghan Markle, 43, is “not a tourist” and “is genuinely saddened by the lives lost and the homes destroyed in these horrific fires”. Bateman, 58, has criticised the couple on X, saying they are “nothing more than ambulance chasers”. The actress reposted a clip of Harry and Markle helping victims at a convention centre in Pasadena, California, over the weekend.

Bateman wrote: “They made a disgusting ‘photo’. Are they ‘touring the damage’? Are they politicians?”, before concluding: “They don’t live here, they’re tourists. Disaster tourists”. Several fires broke out in Los Angeles last week, the largest of which were the Palisades and Eaton fires, which displaced more than 150,000 people and burned 40,000 acres of homes.

Prince Harry, 40, and his wife “have invested a lot of time and resources, they have donated money and essential items,” the source added. “They have also spent a lot of time volunteering, long before the media even knew about their charitable involvement.”
